Despite the distance it proved to be a rewarding day and one that mirrored the nerves and anticipation of performing

as a senior band at the regional finals! Congratulations to all who took part, and to those who helped both in the

Great Western Youth Band – Newsletter September, 2010

Welcome to the latest newsletter from the Great Western Youth Band. This issue contains key dates and lots of important information

so please could you read it carefully, thanks. Paul Richards 07970 781005

Course

It has been necessary to postpone the course until February Half Term due to issues with funding and achieving grants etc.

There will be NO course this October half term.

A residential course will DEFINITELY run on the following dates for all bands:

Wednesday February 23rd to Saturday 26th February 2011 (3 nights). Please keep these dates free. Further details to follow.

October Concert – 30th October

Instead of the course we will simply be holding a Fundraising Saturday Lunchtime concert on Saturday 30th October, 2010

at the Salvation Army Hall, Gorse Hill. More details to follow nearer the time

Fees

It has become necessary to increase the fees. This will be the first increase in 2 years and is necessary to cover the ever increasing

costs of instruments, repairs and music.

1st  child £60 per annum or £20 per term
2nd child £40 per annum or £14 per term
3rd child or more FREE

This still represents excellent value considering the provision of instruments, music and tuition included.

It will come into force with immediate effect ie from September 2010.

Gift Aid

If you have not already done so, you will shortly be asked to complete a gift aid form. This will be sent directly via email,

please could you complete the form and return it to me on a Saturday morning.

Larger Instruments

We are keen to establish more players on larger instruments. The down side is clearly the extra space it takes in the car, the

upside is that often players find larger instruments more suited, and there is also a better chance to progress into the Youth Band

and indeed Brunel Band faster. We are in particular looking for trombone players! If your child is approached please consider this

carefully in conjunction with the band tutors who will provide full information and advice. No one will be forced into a change.

Cost of repairs

We have had a spate of expensive repairs recently usually when instruments are dropped or left un-maintained.

Please could you ensure that instruments are looked after and even occasionally washed/cleaned out, this will ensure that

they stay in good condition and do not require expensive work.

Contact Details and Medical Conditions

Please find attached a sheet which requires completion. It is important that you provide full details of contacts and also any medical

conditions that we should be aware of. These forms will be held confidentially and only used for contacting you and dealing with emergencies.

Giving notice

If there any concerts that cannot be attended or changes of circumstances that affect the band it would be appreciated that as

much notice as possible is provided. Please let either the conductor of your band or myself know.
